X Data Division

X Two date fields are compatible if they have identical USAGE and
X meet at least one of the following conditions:

• X They have the same date format

• X Both are windowed date fields, where one consists only of a
  X windowed year, DATE FORMAT YY

• X Both are expanded date fields, where one consists only of an
  X expanded year, DATE FORMAT YYYY

• X One has DATE FORMAT YYXXXX, the other, YYXX

• X One has DATE FORMAT YYYYXXXX, the other, YYYYXX

X A windowed date field can be subordinate to an expanded date
X group data item. The two date fields are compatible if the
X subordinate date field has USAGE DISPLAY, starts two bytes after
X the start of the group expanded date field, and the two fields
X meet at least one of the following conditions:

• X The subordinate date field has a DATE FORMAT pattern with
  X the same number of Xs as the DATE FORMAT pattern of the
  X group date field.

• X The subordinate date field has DATE FORMAT YY.

• X The group date field has DATE FORMAT YYYYXXXX and the
  X subordinate date field has DATE FORMAT YYXX.

X Procedure Division

X Two date fields are compatible if they have the same date format
X except for the year part, which may be windowed or expanded.
X For example, a windowed date field with DATE FORMAT YYXXX is
X compatible with:

• X Another windowed date field with DATE FORMAT YYXXX

• X An expanded date field with DATE FORMAT YYYYXXX
