1.1.4.5 Comments
A comment is a character-string that can contain any combination of
characters from the character set of the computer. It has no effect on
the execution of the program. There are two forms of comments:

Comment entry (Identification Division)

Comment line (Any division)

This form is described under "Comment Lines" in topic 1.3.5.2.
X Character-strings that form comments can contain:
- X >_Host_> Under OS/390 and VM, DBCS characters or a combination of
X DBCS and EBCDIC characters. <_Host_<
- X >_Workstation_> Under AIX, OS/2, and Windows any character from the
X code page in effect. <_Workstation_<
X Multiple comment lines containing DBCS/EUC strings are allowed. The
X embedding of DBCS/EUC characters in a comment line must be done on a
X line-by-line basis. DBCS/EUC words cannot be continued to a following
X line. No syntax checking for valid DBCS/EUC strings is provided in
X comment lines.
