X 1.1.3.7 SORT-CONTROL
X The SORT-CONTROL special register is the name of an alphanumeric data
X item.
X >_Workstation_> Under AIX, OS/2, and Windows, it is implicitly defined as:
X 01 SORT-CONTROL GLOBAL PICTURE X(160) VALUE "file name".
X Where "file name" is the file name used by SMARTSort as the source for
X additional sort/merge options. <_Workstation_<
X >_Host_> Under OS/390 and VM it is implicitly defined as:
X 01 SORT-CONTROL GLOBAL PICTURE X(8) USAGE DISPLAY VALUE "IGZSRTCD"
X This register contains the ddname of the data set that holds the control
X statements used to improve the performance of a sorting or merging
X operation.
X Under OS/390, you can provide a DD statement for the data set identified
X by the SORT-CONTROL special register, and COBOL for OS/390 & VM will
X attempt to open the data set at execution time. Any error will be
X diagnosed with an informational message. <_Host_<
X You can specify the SORT-CONTROL special register in a function wherever
X an alphanumeric argument is allowed.
X The SORT-CONTROL special register is not necessary for a successful
X sorting or merging operation.
X Note that the sort control file takes precedence over the SORT special
X registers.
X When used in nested programs, this special register is implicitly defined
X in the outermost program.
X For further information, see the IBM COBOL Programming Guide for your
X platform.
