X The SORT-MODE-SIZE special register is the name of a binary data item that
X you can use to specify the length of variable-length records that occur
X most frequently. It has the implicit definition:
X 01 SORT-MODE-SIZE GLOBAL PICTURE S9(5) USAGE BINARY VALUE ZERO
X >_Workstation_> Under AIX, OS/2, and Windows, references to the
X SORT-MODE-SIZE special register are resolved by the compiler; however, the
X value in the special register has no impact for the execution of a SORT or
X MERGE statement. <_Workstation_<
X >_Host_> SORT-MODE-SIZE is equivalent to the 'SMS=' control statement in
X the sort control file. <_Host_<
X You can specify the SORT-MODE-SIZE special register in a function wherever
X an integer argument is allowed.
X When used in nested programs, this special register is implicitly defined
X in the outermost program.
