1.1.1.3 User-Defined Words
The following sets of user-defined words are supported:
X Multi-Byte Characters Allowed?
X Alphabet-name - Yes
X Class-name - Yes
X Condition-name - Yes
X Data-name - Yes
X File-name - Yes
X Index-name - Yes
X Level-numbers: 01-49, 66, 77, 88 - Yes
X Library-name - No
X Method-name - No
X Mnemonic-name - Yes
X Object-oriented class-name - No
X Paragraph-name - Yes
X Priority-numbers: 00-99 - Yes
X Program-name - No
X Record-name - Yes
X Section-name - Yes
X Symbolic-character - Yes
X Text-name - No
For level-numbers and priority numbers, each word must be a 1-digit or
2-digit integer.
X Within a given source program or class definition, but excluding any
X contained program or method, each user-defined word (except level-numbers
and priority-numbers) can belong to only one of these sets. Each
user-defined word within a set must be unique, except as specified in
"Referencing Data Names, Copy Libraries, and Procedure Division Names" in
topic 1.5.
The following types of user-defined words can be referenced by statements
and entries in that program in which the user-defined word is declared:
- Paragraph-name
- Section-name
The following types of user-defined words can be referenced by any COBOL
program, provided that the compiling system supports the associated
library or other system, and the entities referenced are known to that
system:
The following types of names, when they are declared within a
Configuration Section, can be referenced by statements and entries either
in that program which contains a Configuration Section or in any program
contained within that program:
- Alphabet-name
- Class-name
- Condition-name
- Mnemonic-name
- Symbolic-character
The function of each user-defined word is described in the clause or
statement in which it appears.
