• General Sites
  • Powers of Ten by Bruce Bryson is a website which tries to zoom in from the universe to sub-atomic scales.
  • Celestia is a computer program that allows you to fly through the universe from the solar system to beyond the Galaxy.
  • The Universe in 3D is a Java applet written by Are Uppman which allows you to zoom around the universe.
  • Knowing the Universe and its Secrets by Norbert Rumiano is an introduction to astronomy by the person who translated my website into French.
• Nearest Stars
  • 3-D Starmaps by Winchell Chung contains information and advice about constructing 3D starmaps.
  • SolStation.com contains lots of detailed information about many of the nearest stars.
  • The Astronomy Nexus by David Nash has an Encyclopedia of Suns which describes many of the Sun-like stars within 50 light years.
  • The Internet Stellar Database by Roger Wilcox provides information about many of the stars within 75 light years.
  • NASA's NStars Database is a database of over 2600 stars within 25 parsecs (82 light years).
• The Milky Way Galaxy
  • Star Trek Kartographie is a Star Trek site which contains some maps scanned from 'The Guide to the Galaxy' by N Henbest and H Couper.
  • The Spitzer Space Telescope team have produce their own artist's impression of the Milky Way viewed from above.
  • Galaxy Map by Kevin Jardine presents a map of many of the thousands of stars, clusters, and nebulae in the Milky Way.
• The Local Group
  • The Local Group of Galaxies by H Frommert and C Kronberg contains information and pictures about the galaxies in the Local Group.
  • The Extended Local Group of Galaxies is an article about the Local Group (and the Sculptor and Maffei groups) by Rami Rekola in his Encyclopædia Galactica.
• Virgo Supercluster
  • Nearby Groups of Galaxies is an article about the Virgo Supercluster written by Gerard de Vaucouleurs in 1975.
  • Galaxies in VRML by Honeylocust Media Systems allows you to fly around the Virgo Supercluster. (A VRML plug-in is needed).
  • Large Scale Structure of the Universe on Brent Tully's website contains various images of the Virgo supercluster and some nearby superclusters.
  • This article about the Virgo supercluster was written by Brent Tully in the Astrophysical Journal in 1982. It contains some maps of the supercluster.
• Superclusters
  • Superclusters, Observed Properties by Anthony Fairall describes some of the closest superclusters.
  • The Large Scale Structure of the Universe by Andrey Kravtsov contains plots of galaxies out to about 300 million light years.
  • The Local Universe in 3D by Mike Hudson contains some 3D plots of the nearest superclusters and an MPEG movie called Powers of Two.
  • Observing Galaxy Clusters by Jim Shields (on his Adventures in Deep Space page) explains how you can observe nearby superclusters with a small telescope.
  • Allsky Images of the XSC contains some all-sky plots of the 1.6 million galaxies from the 2MASS Extended Source Catalog (XSC).
• The Universe
  • The Sloan Digital Sky Survey aims to plot the positions of a million galaxies out to several billion light years.
  • The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey has plotted the positions of 250 000 galaxies in two directions to about 3.5 billion light years.
