Estas nebulosas se forman durante la ultima etapa de vida de una estrella, por ejemplo en el proceso de conversion de una gigante roja a una enana blanca. Las capas de gas expulsadas en este proceso son visibles durante unos pocos cientos de años. Los remanentes de la estrella que quedan se convierten en una enana blanca poseedora de una temperatura de superficie de 100000 Grados Kelvin.

Columna 9: Tamaño angular de la nebulosa en segundos de arco.
Columna 10: Distancia a la nebulosa planetaria determinada
usando las tres referencias anteriores.
Columna 11: Constelacion en donde se encuentra la nebulosa planetaria.

Es muy dificil medir con precicion la distancia a una nebulosa planetaria. Diferentes tecnicas tienden a producir resultados variantes. Este metodo es muy impreciso y el error puede ser superior a ±50%.
